All we can say is thank heavens 2009 is nearing the end. We have had enough of this year and all the woes that it has rained down upon us. Because it has been a trying year full of turmoil, we decided to take a moment to reflect upon those things we are truly grateful for as well as imagine what some others might be grateful for this Thanksgiving.
Team Luxury is especially thankful we haven’t been struck down by the swine flu but it’s probably because we have been practicing “social distancing” as encouraged by our employer.
Our friends in low places are thankful for Steve Wynn’s prescient signing of country music megastar Garth Brooks to an entertainment deal at Encore Las Vegas.
We are all thankful that “The Hangover” was just a movie and that we don’t know anyone who has ever acted like that while living la vida loca in Las Vegas.
Plenty of out-of-work, leggy showgirls and pretty boy toys are thankful that diva impersonator Frank Marino has landed back on the Strip in his new show now playing at Imperial Palace.
The theatre students at Green Valley High School are thankful there is a First Amendment so they can perform “Rent: School Edition” a musical modernizing Puccini’s “La Bohème”.
Patients all over Southern Nevada are thankful for the decision of District Judge Kathleen Delaney who ruled that medical assistants can continue giving shots so the Valley’s physicians can actually attend to their medical needs.
Local first-time homebuyers are thankful for the realignment of the bankrupt mortgage industry.
UNLV Runnin’ Rebels fans are thankful that hoops season is almost here and that there is always next year.
Pundits and politicos are thankful that a cast of thousands has entered the Governor’s race. Jim Gibbons is happy for all the competition, too, because when the votes splinter off in the primary he may actually have a chance. That’s when you can be thankful you have the right to vote.
On a serious note, there are over 700 very grateful Las Vegans who are thankful for the Goodwill of Southern Nevada who has helped them to find employment in the last year.
As this Thanksgiving approaches, the team at Luxury Las Vegas magazine is not only thankful that 2009 is about to be a distant memory but that we are still successfully landing in your mailbox every month.
Enjoy the new issue, and this Thanksgiving don’t forget to acknowledge all the things you are grateful for in your part of the world. Long live Las Vegas!
