Modern cabin provides luxurious mountain escape

Roughly 30 minutes from Las Vegas, Mount Charleston offers a getaway that replaces city stress with the scent of pine and wood smoke.

Amid the rows of rustic cabins is a modern retreat. Its soft concrete exterior with double slanted, metal roof creates a distinctive aesthetic in the forest.

The residence melds concrete, glass and wood into a timeless modern masterpiece, flooded with natural light. Longtime friends Nima Mahmoudzadeh and Kazem Behjat built it that way.

“It’s a different world here.”

Mahmoudzadeh, who designed the home, earned a master’s degree in architecture in Iran, and previously worked as a designer at a Las Vegas architecture firm.

He approached the design from a purist’s perspective; capturing the essence of modern architecture throughout. Vaulted ceilings, stark white, quartz countertops and cabinetry, white walls, gray wood-laminate flooring and exposed black ductwork enhance the modern effect.

A free-standing, wood-burning fireplace melds the old with the new.

“Modern is my style,” Mahmoudzadeh said. “It’s clean, chic and not complicated.”

Walls of windows serve as bookends for the home’s upper-level main living area, while showcasing stunning views of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest.

“I wanted to bring the outside inside,” Mahmoudzadeh said. “I also wanted to create a unique design.”

The striking white kitchen divides the expansive space. This division puts the formal living and dining areas on opposite sides of the cabin.

He added modern light fixtures throughout, including on the stairwell that descends to the lower level.

Privacy in the lower-level bedrooms is a strategic part of his design.

“I decided to have the common area on the second level to catch the better views,” Mahmoudzadeh said.

Two identical master suites flank additional bedrooms, bath and laundry rooms. Each master bath has an oval soaking tub and separate showers with rain showerheads.

The 3,285-square-foot, two-story mountain escape at 4120 Mont Blanc Way features five bedrooms, four baths, bar seating, two outdoor decks, tiered landscaping and two-car garage with additional uncovered parking.

Situated on a 7,841-square-foot rectangular lot, JMS Contractors completed the project earlier this year. The modern cabin is on the market for $1.2 million through Kamran Zand, broker and owner of Luxury Estates International.
